Eight Taliban taken hostage in Kalam

PESHAWAR: Residents of Kalam town in Swat took eight Taliban hostage after a clash with them on Tuesday, locals said. “Heavy clashes are taking place between Kalam residents and Taliban since Tuesday,” residents told Daily Times by telephone on Wednesday. There were no reports of casualties on either side. The Taliban have not been able to control Kalam since 2007 when Swat plunged into unrest. On Wednesday, Taliban searched hotels in Maidan town looking for Kalam residents but could not find any, the residents added. staff report
